Bethesda has announced that the annual event, Quakecon is an online event. While the publisher wanted to return to Texas, it appears that uncertainties are preventing it from going back to an in-person event. Instead, Quakecon 2022 is going to be an online event yet again, taking place between August 18-20, 2022.
In a statement issued to the press and published online, Bethesda cites too many uncertainties to commit to an in-person event. The official announcement states: “Like you, we’re disappointed to not return to Dallas this year. An event of this size requires months of planning, and in this case, we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to successfully executing an in-person QuakeCon.”.
There are months of planning involved with these events, from PR, marketing, and the game designers and developers involved with making demos and other content presentable. Doing it online is much more reasonable considering the factors Bethesda are dealing with. However, it is unclear what these circumstances are, as the official post did not clarify those uncertainties.
However, rest assured you will still get the same old Quakecon in an online presentation. The teams in Bethesda’s developmental studios are hard at work ready for the presentation taking place from August 18-20. Sometime in June, more information will be revealed regarding the online meetups, streaming programmes, giveaways, and more Quakecon antics, so there’s that to look forward to.
You can catch the announcement of Quakecon 2022 over on the Bethesda website. Although, it is not all doom and skoom(a), as Bethesda is committing itself to getting Quakecon 2023 back to an in-person event. Whether that happens, we will have to remain and see for ourselves.
